Meet the Team: Logix Talent of the Month – Shannon Jam Magat – Recruiter, Gamer, and All-Around-Good-Guy

Last year, we started a series covering the myriad members of the Logix BPO team. This year, we’re starting the series with someone that everybody in the company likes! And it’s no surprise, since he is what you can call the epitome of the “good guy.” People, meet Shannon Jam Magat, recruiter, gamer, and all-around good guy! He’s also bagged the employee of the month title on the last month of 2023, so it also shows just how dedicated he is to his job too.

So, without further ado, let’s meet Jam, shall we?

Q: Hi Jam, can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

Jam: My name is Jam, I’m 29 years old, and a lifelong resident of Cebu. I graduated from The University of San Carlos, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. After graduation, I went straight into the recruitment industry, which is what I’m doing to this day.

Q: So that means, you’ve been in recruitment from day one? What is your current position in LogixBPO?

Jam: Yes, that’s basically it. I am currently nearing my second year at Logix working with ION Search as a Sourcing Specialist/Researcher.

Q: Oooh, interesting. So you’ve been with the company for a couple of years now. May I ask, what motivated you to pursue a career in recruitment?

Jam: As a college student, I was more interested in the subjects that had to do with industrial psychology. This led me to discover that the best path for me was to specialize in an aspect of Human Resources. I also felt strongly about helping people. So, in short, I chose recruitment because I had the opportunity to help people find work while still doing something that truly interested me.

Q: How did you start your journey in recruitment? Was there a specific event or experience that sparked your interest?

Jam: The human mind and what makes people tick has always been a point of interest for me, hence the Psychology course. As for my current work, I think that even before graduating, I had always planned on going into recruitment. For one, I had a lot of friends who were planning to do so. Whether you like to admit it or not, having a lot of connections in this industry really helps, so it was the logical move for me.

Q: So, with that said, can you tell me what are the key strengths and skills that you bring to your role?

Jam: Hmmm, I think I take immense pride in the fact that I’m a problem solver. It’s quite fun for me to dive into a task and figure out the best and most efficient way I can get it done. I also find myself a bit of a fast worker, so, once I get going, I’m like the Energizer bunny, I won’t stop until what I’m doing is done. Haha!

Q: Can you give me an example of how these strengths have helped you excel in your work?

Jam: So, in my line of work, particularly in my current role, there are a lot of repeating tasks. Tasks like updating important details in our ATS multiple times a day and other similar responsibilities. I find that figuring out ways to make things go a little quicker helps here. This is where my problem-solving skills, speed in finishing my work, and stick-to-it attitude benefit me (and the company I work for) the most.

Q: Are there any particular areas you’re currently working on to further enhance your skills?

Jam: With accuracy being a big part of my role, I try my best to always keep double-checking my work for details I may have missed or mislabeled.

Q: Nice! So it’s safe to say that you do value attention to detail, speed, accuracy, and resiliency in your work. Those are pretty rare in most people these days. Anyway, let’s talk about your goals in life. What are your goals in life, both personally and professionally?

Jam: Personally, my long-term goal is growing professionally with the company I’m currently with and developing more skills related to Sourcing and Recruitment. So, that technically makes my personal and professional goal a singular one. Right? Haha!

Q: I believe it does, haha. Let me ask, with so many companies recruiting specialists like you, why did you choose to work for LogixBPO? What attracted you to this organization?

Jam: Truth be told, I didn’t find the job. The job found me! Haha! I was actually approached by a Logix employee through LinkedIn and honestly, at that time, the salary on offer was just too tempting to pass up. Add to that the fact that since Logix was still a smaller company size back then, that meant that I would be working in a completely different environment than my previous jobs.

Q: Interesting! Can you tell me how that happened?

Jam: So, a Logix employee approached me on Linkedin. I believe I was 2 and a half years into my job then. When they approached me, I thought long and hard about moving, and I felt that I had learned everything there was to learn over there in that other company. So, I took the chance to work for a smaller company, and in a completely different market, recruitment-wise, that is.

Q: Nice story! So, in your opinion, in the two years you’ve been with Logix, can you tell me what sets the company apart from others in the industry?

Jam: I think it’s the personal touch when it comes to the admin team, specifically with the Team Leaders. They really take their time to listen to their client-facing employees and hear what they have to say. Oh, and the fun games the company has every Friday. Haha! That helps us create bonds with our co-Logix workmates. We work mostly via remote, so these games do help us get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.

Q: Yeah, I’ve been to a few of these Friday games, and yes, they are fun! Haha! So, with your workload, aside from the Friday fun games, how do you maintain a healthy work-life balance? Any particular strategies or activities you engage in?

Jam: Probably the biggest contributor to my feeling that I have a great work-life balance with Logix has to be working from home. I don’t have to stress myself out with long commutes to and from work, and that has really helped me in terms of the time I have to enjoy my hobbies.

Q: Oooh, speaking of hobbies, can you share some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Jam: I love video games. I am a humongous gamer and I find that it’s a great way to let off some stress after work and relax. Except when it’s one of those horror games though, haha. Besides that, I love watching movies and listening to my current musical obsessions.

Q: How do these hobbies or interests contribute to your personal and professional development?

Jam: Well, with Video games, it’s the problem-solving part of that hobby that really translates to my work.

Q: I’m a bit of a gamer too, hahaha, so I get the interest in such a hobby and what it brings to a person. Okay, so it’s time to get a little more personal if you don’t mind. Can you tell me a little something about your family life?

Jam: I am the eldest of three and I am currently living with my family as well as with my partner who, incidentally, is also a Logix employee. Haha!

Q: How do your family and partner contribute to your success in your career?

Jam: Well, they celebrate the accomplishments I’ve earned professionally, like when I got the employee of the month last year. This inspires me to keep doing my best.

Q: How do you manage to balance your professional commitments with your family life?

Jam: Being able to work from home permanently gives me a lot of room to be there for my family should an emergency arise, which is really important to me.

Q: I get what you mean. I feel the same way too. So, moving on, how would you describe the work environment in Logix BPO?

Jam: Since Logix BPO is a smaller company when compared with my previous employers, I find that I get the chance to get to know other Logix employees who aren’t part of my team. Interactions may be limited to online conversations and chats, but the Logix administration team makes sure we have our fun little games every Friday! That’s where we get to see the fun side of everyone!

Q: It was really a lot of fun talking to you. I can see now why people see you as the all-around good guy! Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself, your work experience, or your goals? What excites you the most about your role and the future of Logix BPO?

Jam: Well, my goals are the same as what I said earlier, to progress in my field. As for Logix BPO, I’m excited about where Logix as a company will grow. I believe our CEO has big plans for everyone and I’m looking forward to seeing his plans come to fruition.
