CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES – Talent solutions and business consulting firm Robert Half’s latest survey reveals that 36% of professionals believe that new graduates should be proficient in AI upon entering the workforce. This signals how AI is reshaping the future of work and becoming a competitive advantage for early-career professionals.
Conversely, it emphasizes that good workplace behaviors and mindsets are essential to ensuring their long-term career success.
AI Expectations From Candidates
As AI tools continue to integrate into operational workflows, employers have set AI skills as the baseline for their hiring expectations.
They don’t expect candidates to have deep technical expertise in the subject, as cited in the survey. What matters is that they can “demonstrate familiarity with AI—particularly the ability to review AI-generated content, recognize its limitations, and take responsibility for the final product.”
A Learning Mindset Matters
On top of the technical AI skills, employers are looking for candidates who exhibit a learning mindset. They hire candidates who are curious, open to feedback, and willing to build professional skills.
Dawn Fay, operational president at Robert Half, echoes this, saying, “Employers don’t expect first-time professionals to have everything figured out on day one. What stands out is a willingness to learn, an understanding of professional expectations, and a focus on building skills and relationships that drive long-term career success.”
