GORAKHPUR, UTTAR PRADESH – A man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a criminal racket that lured young women with fake job offers and held them captive in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. The victims were sexually assaulted under the guise of employment opportunities.
Superintendent of Police (SP-City) of Muzaffarpur, Awadhesh Dixit, stated that according to the complaint records, one of the victims was contacted via social media in June 2022. The suspect promised her a good job in Muzaffarpur. But upon her arrival, she and other women were then confined, beaten, and sexually exploited for several months. The survivor managed to escape and report the abuse to the police.
Investigation reveals harrowing details
Deputy SP Vinita Sinha confirmed that statements from the complainant and other victims have been recorded, uncovering the accused’s modus operandi. The suspect would lure a victim with the promise of a good job in Muzaffarpur. However, upon their arrival, the victim, along with other women, would be confined, beaten, and sexually exploited for several months.
The victims were also coerced into making calls to lure other young women with similar fake job offers. When the victims demanded their salaries, the accused would claim they were now part of the firm.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested one suspect and is currently searching for eight more individuals, including the firm’s owner. All accused are connected to a fraudulent marketing company.
Initially, the victim’s complaint was not taken seriously by the authorities she initially approached to, prompting her to approach the court, which then ordered the registration of the case against the nine accused.
The police are now investigating why the initial complaint was not lodged and are committed to bringing all the accused to justice. The SIT continues to search for the remaining suspects, ensuring that those responsible for the horrific crimes are held accountable.
