WESTMORELAND, JAMAICA – Teleperformance, a leading provider of business process outsourcing (BPO) services, has opened a new contact center in Westmoreland, Jamaica, bringing 800 job opportunities to the region.
This new facility, located in Llandilo, will support the company’s existing operations on the island and provide a more convenient workplace for approximately 400 employees who previously commuted to Montego Bay.
The launch event on August 22 was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by notable figures, including Custos of Westmoreland Reverend Hartley Perrin, Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central George Wright, Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar Danree Delancy, and Moses Chybar, chairman of the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce.
A boost for local employment and the economy
Reverend Perrin described the new center as a “game changer” for the parish. He highlighted its potential to offer significant employment opportunities for young people in the area.
“We have never had anything of this magnitude in the parish that will seek to employ young people. Westmoreland is known for crime and violence. There was a time when we were number one for [crime]. This facility is a beacon of hope and is a rising star in the west,” Perrin stated.
Mayor Delancy emphasized the importance of the BPO sector to Jamaica’s economy, noting that the expansion reflects confidence in the country’s potential.
He remarked, “The BPO sector is a key driver of the Jamaican economy. Contributing significantly to Jamaica’s GDP [gross domestic product]. This [new Teleperformance facility] shows confidence in our island Jamaica. [It] could have gone to any other country to do this expansion.”
Strategic expansion focused on employee well-being
Jake Becker, Senior Vice President of Operations and Country Manager for Teleperformance Jamaica, highlighted that employee comfort and productivity were central to the decision to open the new branch.
“Our team members and their families are at the heart of everything we do,” Becker told the Jamaica Observer. “This new location is a strategic move to enhance our workforce’s well-being and boost performance.”
Teleperformance operates in more than 80 countries worldwide. The Westmoreland site marks its second location in Jamaica.
