DIMAPUR, INDIA – Nagaland has joined Maharashtra, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu as one of the Indian states to open the first-ever women-centric BPO center within its region.
Present at its inauguration in Dimapur on February 18, 2026 was the state’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. He considers this initiative “a new chapter in Nagaland’s journey toward inclusive and technology-driven growth.”
The Morning Voice reports that the BPO center is a joint project between the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and the Jindal South West (JSW) Foundation, with the first phase incurring an investment of ₹60 million, funded by JSW Foundation and JSW Shakti.
Empowering Women in the Workforce
Chief Minister Rio sees the crucial role of women in society. Nagaland has plenty of tech-savvy women with “the skills and adaptability to compete in the global service economy.”
He notes that the BPO center will not only “further strengthen their economic and social contributions,” but it will also enable them to grow professionally and achieve financial independence.
He adds that IDAN and JSW Foundation’s partnership “reflects a shared vision of empowering women, enhancing skills, and creating meaningful jobs.”
IDAN and JSW Foundation plan to employ 125 women at first, then scale up to 500 in the future, providing IT-enabled services, such as:
- Customer support
- Data processing
- Back-office operations
