MAHARASHTRA, INDIA – During the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, the Government of Maharashtra has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lodha Developers Ltd to develop large-scale data centers worth ₹1 trillion for the state’s IT and IT-enabled services industry.
The data centers will be housed within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, consolidating MMR’s “role at the center of the country’s digital transformation” further.
Officials said that this investment will create 150,000 high-value jobs and that the influx will “support local economic growth and strengthen Mumbai’s position as a global technology center.”
The MOU was witnessed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Lodha Group’s Managing Director and CEO Abhishek Lodha.
What This Means for India’s BPOs
The state’s IT and BPO services firms are set to benefit from the ₹1 trillion Lodha deal, enabling them to service global clients better.
According to a report from Construction World, the project signals “a strategic diversification into high-growth digital infrastructure.” This means firms will have the infrastructure support they need for AI, cloud computing, and other IT requirements.
Additionally, the 150,000 high-value jobs signal a shift toward more specialized, AI-centered technical roles.
This infrastructure support, along with AI-enabled talent, will help firms secure high-value contracts and remain competitive in the global market.
