NEW DELHI, INDIA – India’s leading tech companies are set to hire 90,000 freshers in the current fiscal year, fueled by strong IT sector earnings in the April-June quarter, which indicate increased demand for employment.
TCS and Infosys lead the hiring drive
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to hire nearly 40,000 freshers this fiscal year. In the first quarter alone, TCS added 5,452 employees, reversing a three-quarter decline in headcount.
The company now employs 606,998 people, with an attrition rate down to 12.1%. Milind Lakkad, TCS’s Chief HR Officer, emphasized their strategy of campus hiring to fill skill gaps.
Infosys aims to recruit around 15,000–20,000 freshers this year. The company hired 11,900 freshers in FY24, a significant drop from over 50,000 in FY23. CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka mentioned during the Q1 earnings call that their hiring plans depend on growth prospects.
Additional IT firms join the hiring surge
HCLTech plans to employ over 10,000 freshers from campuses this fiscal year, according to its CEO C Vijayakumar. The company now has 219,401 employees, with a net addition of 8,080 in the first quarter.
Wipro is focusing on completing its backlog of fresher onboarding, aiming to hire around 10,000-12,000 employees this financial year, according to its chief HR officer Saurabh Govil.
Tech Mahindra also announced plans to hire 6,000 freshers in the ongoing financial year.
The hiring initiatives of these top IT firms reflect renewed optimism in the sector, driven by strong quarterly results and a growing deal pipeline.
