Fiji BPO sector bolsters economic growth
Prasad noted the industry’s crucial role in Fiji’s economic diversification. He underscored that the sector leverages several key advantages, with the ultimate goal of establishing Fiji as a leading outsourcing hub. Achieving this goal will contribute to a robust and resilient economy, which benefits the entire nation.
Prasad also expressed optimism that the growth of the outsourcing sector would encourage Fiji’s youth to pursue their skills and career aspirations within the country, rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
The Fiji government has demonstrated its commitment to the industry through significant investments, including $2.5 million towards resilient ICT infrastructure and the introduction of new skills accreditation courses.
Outsource Fiji targets global market expansion
With the infrastructure upgrades, Outsource Fiji, also known as the BPO Council of Fiji, aims to capture just 10 percent of the global BPO market, which was valued at $280.64 billion in 2023 and is projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.4% from 2023–2030.
Januf projects that this initiative will create approximately 25,000 employment opportunities for Fijians over the next five to eight years. Currently, the industry employs about 8,000 individuals across various sectors.
With continued investment and infrastructure upgrades, Fiji’s outsourcing industry is poised to position itself as a competitive player in the global business process outsourcing sector.
