AI-Enabled Outsourcing Redefines the Cost Structure in 2026

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES – Investment-centered publication Insider Monkey recently released a trends report, stating that the AI-enabled outsourcing model has allowed global firms to compress their cost structure and thereby make noticeably more profit.

This result signals the need for operational changes if others want to ensure margin resilience.

How AI Efficiency Impacts Costs

AI has pulled many firms away from the traditional labor-based model, granting early adopters like Accenture the benefit of permanently reducing their fixed costs. And Insider Monkey notes four trends where this is most strategically seen.

Automating Tier-1 Customer Support

The maturity of Agentic AI means it’s more “autonomous, contextual, and capable of end-to-end resolution. With it, firms can confidently automate Tier-1 customer support tasks, thereby lowering the cost per resolution from $3.50 to $6.00 to less than $0.10.

They can achieve more than a 90% reduction in unit cost—an amount that will go directly to their bottom line.

Reducing Back-Office Inefficiencies

Back-office operations account for most of the selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) expenses. The more inefficient these functions are, the higher SG&A will be.

But by introducing robotic process automation (RPA) into it, firms can automatically process 92% of invoices and 85% of standard HR inquiries, reducing the SG&A-to-revenue ratio to 150–250 basis points.

Driving the EBITDA

Turning fixed costs into variable, usage-based costs has an incremental benefit on the firms’ earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA).

The report explains that “AI integration can realistically compress [internal and outsourced customer support, technical helpdesk, and basic back-office support] spend by 40% over 24 months.”

If a 10-billion-dollar global enterprise with an EBITDA of $1.5 billion were to spend $250 million annually on AI, its EBITDA could increase to $1.5B, “driving a 100 basis point expansion in the consolidated operating margin.”

Hedging for Resilience

Unlike the traditional BPO model, which is vulnerable to wage inflation and labor volatility, AI-enabled outsourcing is compute-based, allowing firms to “lock their cost structures” and making them immune to such vulnerabilities.

This provides them with the operational resilience to continue their business processes regardless of local labor strikes, political unrest, or other fortuitous events.
