PERTH, AUSTRALIA — Wesfarmers Health has partnered with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to outsource several back-office functions, including IT, marking a significant shift in the company’s operations. The transition affects roles across IT, human resources, and finance as Wesfarmers Health seeks to improve efficiency and enhance business capabilities.
Staff concerns over outsourcing and job security
Consultants from TCS have arrived at Wesfarmers Health’s Melbourne headquarters to shadow current employees in preparation for the shift. This process has raised concerns among staff about job security, with some employees expressing anxiety over the changes. According to iTnews, an anonymous source described the experience as “digging your own grave,” underscoring the uncertainty many feel.
The news comes after the retail conglomerate, which also owns Kmart, Bunnings Warehouse, Officeworks, and Priceline, reported a record $2.6 billion return following a $3.6 billion profit before tax.
Company strategy and support for affected employees
A Wesfarmers Health spokesperson confirmed the engagement with TCS, explaining that the decision followed a detailed selection process aimed at transforming business functions. “As a result of these changes, a proportion of people will be impacted in non-customer facing roles,” the spokesperson said, adding that support, including redeployment opportunities, will be available to those affected.
Wesfarmers Health was established in 2022 after the acquisition of Australian Pharmaceutical Industries (API), a leading Australian health and beauty company. This partnership with TCS is part of Wesfarmers’ broader effort to streamline operations within its expanded portfolio, which includes Priceline, InstantScript, and other health-focused brands.
