KARNATAKA, INDIA – The state government of Karnataka, through the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), has recently announced that it’s looking for a consultancy firm that can help it build a strategy to draw more global capability centers (GCCs), IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS), and data centers to the state.
A KITS senior official told Moneycontrol that they want to ensure Karnataka remains the “largest GCC hub in India,” especially now that neighboring cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune are competing against them as alternative hubs.
At the time of writing, India currently hosts ~1,750 GCCs, and it’s expected to reach 2,400 by 2030.
What the Consultant Will Do
KITS shared that the selected consultancy firm will help them address the following areas in order to “sharpen [Karnataka’s] value proposition and proactively reach out to companies planning new centers.”
Identify gaps and improve competitiveness:
- Talk with industry members about factors that influence decisions.
- Identify gaps in talent, infrastructure, ease of doing business, etc.
- Suggest strategies and incentives.
Global outreach to multinational companies:
- Identify and target high-value global firms (that don’t have GCCs in the state) in high-potential sectors.
- Support the state’s outreach efforts in key global markets.
- Help promote the state’s policies and incentives.
Focus on emerging technologies:
- Spot emerging technologies, such as AI, quantum tech, blockchain, and space tech, that could drive growth in the state’s technology sector.
- Study the industry market and suggest plans for building these technological ecosystems in the state.
- Work with technology firms to refine industry strategies.
Support policy implementation:
- Assist the state in implementing and updating policies, including the incentives under the Karnataka GCC Policy 2024–2029 and the IT Policy 2025-2030.
