ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA — Leading global technology consulting firm, Accenture, has submitted a proposal to expand its presence in India with a new campus in Andhra Pradesh, planning to generate approximately 12,000 new jobs.
Accenture has requested approximately 10 acres of land under the state’s policy of leasing land for ₹0.99 per acre to companies that create employment.
India is already Accenture’s largest employee base globally. With more than 300,000 employees, it accounts for 40% of the company’s total global headcount. This development occurs amid international visa policy changes, including the U.S. policy of requiring a US$100,000 fee for new H-1B visas, which could slow hiring abroad.
What This Means for the Industry
Accenture’s move mirrors that of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Cognizant, both of which have acquired land in Visakhapatnam, India, under the same policy.
These expansions underscore a shift in the outsourcing industry’s strategies, likewise signaling the recognition of Andhra Pradesh as an emerging hub for technology and IT.
Companies are now wagering money on expanding into Tier 2 cities to future-proof their operations, especially as it has become easier to recruit talent in smaller areas due to their cost-efficiency in rent and wages.
These changes also highlight that governmental policies are changing how firms expand their operations. If authorized, Accenture’s new campus will signal a new era in outsourcing.
